The Music Curriculum at Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School
At Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School, we are Musicians! Our aim is for our children to be confident and expressive musicians, who explore and appreciate the world of music with creativity and joy. They will gain a solid understanding of musical concepts and develop the skills to perform, compose, and listen with critical awareness. Our music curriculum is designed to provoke and provide answers to questions about the musical aspects of the world. We develop cultural capital by fostering meaningful interactions and nurturing a love for music, ensuring our children flourish and achieve!
Nettleworth Infant and Nursery school is a unique and wonderful school, we have identified the need to shape and drive the curriculum based on our school vision and ethos. We have developed 6 key curriculum drivers which underpin the learning and experiences we undertake in all areas of school life. These run as a thread throughout each curriculum subject to ensure our curriculum is enriched and implemented to provide appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities for our children to SHINE.
Our music curriculum is well-sequenced and progressive, covering key areas such as singing, playing instruments, listening, and composing. In order to support our children in their ability to know more and remember more, there are opportunities to review previous learning and build on it, ensuring they thrive.
A Musician leaving Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School will have a strong understanding of musical concepts and the confidence to express themselves through music. They will have acquired the specific knowledge and abilities to think musically and create their own compositions. We believe that the impact of our coherent music curriculum is that children develop a lifelong love of music, teachers have high expectations, and quality evidence is presented through performances, video evidence and pupil voice.
