Summer Two

Our Wonderful World

Literacy

Our book focus this half term is 'The Whale Who Wanted More'. This is a tale of friendship, community and discovering, Humphrey the Whale is on a quest to find the one perfect object that will make him feel complete. He roams far and wide, gathering endless undersea treasure as he goes. Within this rhyming tale it encourages sharing and kindness and the children will be re writing the story in their own words.

Maths

Within our maths sessions we will continue to look at numbers to 20 and beyond and begin to recognise the pattern of the counting system. We will have a deep understanding of of numbers to 10 including the composition of numbers and be able to make connections. Within our maths sessions we will be consolidating our learning over the past year.

Communication and Language

We will continue to use and learn a wide range of vocabulary and develop our speaking and listening skills. Some children will be completing their NELI sessions. We will all continue to participate with the Mr Tongue story which focusses on imitation of tongue and lip movements.

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

We will continue to follow our rainbow rules and our class THRIVE action plan. We will work collaboratively, take turns, form positive friendships and show sensitively to their own and others' needs. We will be confident to try new activities, show independence, resilience and perseverance.

Physical Development

We will continue to develop our fine and gross motor skills through a range of activities and our PE sessions. We will travel around, under, over and through balancing and climbing equipment, negotiating space and obstacles safely. We will also be able to use scissors to cut a range of materials and shapes.

Understanding the World

We will continue to explore our wonderful world looking at the differences between the school environment and the seaside as well as life in England and other countries. We will understand the past through stories and know the differences between the past and now. Will will explore different ways to travel and learn how to care for living things on earth as well as know how to stay safe online.
